Created while artist in residence at Vytlacil on Tappan land, colonially known as Sparkill, Upstate New York. This ‘hybrid landscape’ self-portrait contemplates how cultural identity informs experiences of place and the artist’s position as neocoloniser. TextaQueen uproots the dismembered trunk of a long-memoried Indian elephant, exposing roots resembling that of a fallen oak native to the land upon which she finds herself.
