Coconut Legacy is marked by an immense feeling of porosity – the artist’s body leaking, spilling, merging with sand, ocean, ferns, fairy floss skies, cosmic forces of past and present. Yearning for (re)connection with ancestral legacies of Goa, India, TextaQueen embarks upon an allegorical narrative of their life from conception to death, weaving emblems from their birthplace of white-centric Australian culture (such as the gelatinous Chico baby lollies) with neon tropic lands and bitter-sweet poetic performance. This series evokes the psychic survival process of a racialised person amongst ethnocultural and colonial genealogies.
