Not quite a Droste effect (picture within picture within.. etc) to this snap from installing my work for Agency Ink: The Personal and Political in Print. Opens this eve Thur Mar 15 6-8pm at Counihan Gallery in Brunswick – Narrm. I’ll be debuting this work created during my current @Library_Vic Creative Fellowship, from my new series in progress (The Progressive Arts Institution prefers) The Circus of the Oppressed – a satirical poster style series examining the experiences of marginalised artists in institutional contexts. Drawing inspiration from the Library’s collection of political, circus and magic posters and books, conceptually collaborating with 10gentle collective* and following the work of a legacy of artists and academics including but not limited to Damali Ayo, Kameelah Janan Rasheed @kameelahr, Adrian Piper, Aileen Moreton-Robinson and Sara Ahmed. Agency Ink: The Personal and Political in Print opens at Counihan Gallery 233 Sydney Rd Brunswick – Narrm this Thu 15 March 6-8pm. Artist talk Sat 24 March 1.30-4pm. On until Apr 15.
*10gentle is a for-profit anti-oppression operation consisting of diverse creators in the progressive arts dedicated to maximising the expressions of marginalised identities for the education, inspiration and entertainment of privileged audiences.
