To celebrate #internationalwomensday we’re sharing a work by #TextaQueen from the UQ Art Collection. In this satirical, vaguely comical print, the artist subverts the legend of notorious bush ranger #NedKelly, recasting a women in the role of the Irish rebel and provocateur. TextaQueen’s title is borrowed from Peter Carey’s novel True history of the Kelly gang (2000), which considers notions of historical truth.
